How to Fill Out a Rental Application

Completing your online rental application

The rental application form is sent to you by the landlord or agent. Filling the rental application form involves a three-step process which includes: Rent specifics, Rental application, and Tenalet screening.


Before you begin

  • You should have already viewed the property you're applying for

  • An agent or landlord gave you this application link

Step-by-step guide

1. Open the application link in your web browser and sign up for a Tenalet account with your email or Google account.

2. Once you have created your account, you will see the application form page.

On the application page, under the Rental Specifics row, click Start, then enter your basic information.

  1. The first page asks if you are the tenant or guarantor/cosigner
  2. If applying as a guarantor/cosigner, specify whom you will be cosign for. Then, click Save & Next

3. Enter your preferred move-in date. If you don't know the exact date, you can add a closer date. Then click Save & Next.
4. Enter your referrer.
  1.  If you are working with an agent, enter the agent's name and phone number.  Otherwise, click Save & Next.
5. Other tenants: Are you moving in with other tenants?
  1. If yes, enter the tenant’s name and relationship. You also have to select if the landlord/agent will screen this tenant.
  2.  If no, click Save & Next.

6. Guarantors /cosigners: If you need a guarantor, enter their details
  1. If you don't need one, select the check box, click Done, and continue with your tenant screening.

7. Start the rental application. This collects your personal information, residence, occupation/income, and reference.
  1. Personal information: Enter your name, date of birth, nationality, state of origin, and marital status

  1. Residence: enter your current housing status.

  1. If you are currently renting, enter your current house address, city, state, annual rent, number of years you have stayed there, and the current landlord/property manager's full name and number. Click Save & Next.
  2. If you own a property, enter the property address, city, and state. Click Save & Next.
  3. If you are living with someone, enter the street address, city, and state. Click Save & Next.
  4. Select your work status (employed, unemployed, student, retired) and fill out your current and previous occupation information on the following pages. Click Save & Next

There is a section to add any additional income you receive, and ensure the total monthly income amount is accurate.
  1. Reference: Enter all the references and their contact details you would like to include in your rental application.

9. Other info:  You will be asked:
  • Have you been asked to move out of your previous residence?

  • Have you committed a crime?

  • Are you moving in with pets?


Select the option that best fits your situation.

10. Click the Start button to begin the Tenalet screening 
Enter the rent amount and select the payment frequency (monthly or yearly). Click Confirm & Continue to continue

  1. Next, prove you can pay the rent by linking your bank account. This verifies affordability without sharing your transactions. You can view a sample income verification report. Click Link account with Mono. You can also select the option to show your exact income. This is optional
  2. Accept linking permissions and select your bank, login
  3. Complete facial verification, enter OTP, then continue to link your account. You will see a confirmation once your account is linked.
  4. Click the Proceed button.
  5. The next step is to show your financial reliability. This will pull your credit history from CBN-licensed bureaus.
  6. Click the I approve button

10. After that, pay for the screening. You have the option to pay an additional fee to reuse your screening report in the next 30 days or apply once
  1. Click the Pay for Screening button and select the payment method that best suits you. If your agent selects the pay screening option(me). You don't have to pay; submit your application.
  2. Once payment is successful, click Submit Application. You can also select the checkbox to get a copy of your screening report.
  3. Go to your dashboard to view your application status. This will show as submitted until the landlord/agent approves or denies your application.

You can also share the application information with the landlord/agent in your dashboard

Congratulations, you have submitted your application. Your agent or landlord will be notified via email to review your application.
